BREAKING NEWS: Cambodia Denounces Thailand’s Military Actions as Violations of Sovereignty and International Law

Phnom Penh, July 25, 2025 — The Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia has formally condemned Thailand’s military operations following an incident early yesterday morning, July 24, 2025, which Phnom Penh characterized as a deliberate and unlawful act of aggression.

In a official statement released today, the Ministry accused Thailand of launching a “deliberate, unprovoked, and unlawful” military attack on Cambodian territory, constituting a severe breach of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The attack reportedly targeted civilian infrastructure, including the pagoda, hospital, gas station, market, and other civilian sites, resulting in casualties and destruction.

According to the statement, the attack involved the deployment of ground troops, helicopters, fighter jets, and cluster munitions, with troop movements reportedly initiated from the Thai border provinces of Trat and Chanthaburi. The Cambodian government described these actions as an escalation of tensions, which is in direct violation of the Charter of the United Nations and Cambodia’s commitments under international law.

Cambodia’s Ministry emphasized that the military response was aimed at defending national sovereignty and citizens. “Rather than de-escalating the conflict, Thailand has intensified its military posture,” the statement read. Cambodia has mobilized additional troops and military equipment in the border regions of Koh Kong and Pursat, under the so-called “Chakrabongse Bhuvanath” war-readiness plan, to prevent further incursions.

Cambodian officials voiced concerns over false accusations from Thailand claiming Cambodian landmines as provocations, describing such claims as “manufactured pretexts” aimed at justifying aggression. The statement reiterates Cambodia’s unwavering stance on peaceful resolution of disputes and adherence to international law.

The Ministry called on the international community, including the United Nations Security Council and ASEAN, to condemn Thailand’s actions and to support Cambodia’s efforts to maintain regional stability. Phnom Penh emphasized its commitment to self-defense rights under Article 51 of the UN Charter and pledged to continue defending its sovereignty against any foreign aggression.

The Cambodian government also reiterated its desire for peaceful dialogue and diplomatic resolution, urging Thailand to cease military actions and respect international agreements. “Cambodia remains committed to peaceful conflict resolution, but we will defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity with all legal means available,” the statement concluded.

The situation remains tense along the Cambodia-Thailand border, with ongoing military mobilizations reported from both sides. The international community has urged restraint and adherence to peaceful means to resolve the dispute, which has escalated in recent days.
